Diaspora Solar (diasporasolar.com) is an educational platform founded by Maina Mumbi, a solar energy specialist with 20+ years of field experience across Africa and recognised by the IFC / World Bank Lighting Africa programme. We provide live Zoom sessions, guides, and resources to help individuals correctly size and build off-grid solar systems.

When this policy says “we”, “us”, or “our”, it refers to Diaspora Solar.

What Information We Collect

We collect information only when you voluntarily provide it — for example, when you register for a session. We do not collect any data passively beyond standard website cookies.

How We Use Your Information

• To deliver sessions: We use your name, email, and location to send you your Zoom link, session materials, and the Solar Prescription Worksheet.
• To personalise the session: Your location is used to present real peak sun hour (PSH) data relevant to your area. Your solar question helps Maina prepare relevant examples.
• To send reminders: If you provide a WhatsApp number, we may send session reminders via WhatsApp only. We will not use it for marketing without your explicit consent.
• To process payment: Your details are passed to Stripe or PayPal solely to complete the transaction for Session 2.
• To follow up after sessions: We may email you session recordings (available for 48 hours), resources, or information about future sessions. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not use your information for automated profiling, advertising networks, or selling to third parties.

Who We Share Your Data With

We share your data only with the services that are strictly necessary to run our sessions:

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third party for marketing or commercial purposes.

How Long We Keep Your Data

• Registration data — retained for up to 12 months after your session, then deleted unless you have an ongoing relationship with us.
• Payment records — retained for 7 years as required by financial record-keeping regulations.
• Email correspondence — retained for as long as the relationship is active.

You may request deletion at any time (see Your Rights below).
